Dedicated to the memory and legend that is Luther Vandross and billed as THE highest rated show, ‘Luther Live’ is a fabulous fun party night that is not to be missed!
The band came on stage to get themselves ready and the audience were cheering straightaway – we were eager! The backing singers – the trio – sauntered onto the stage like synchronised swimmers, in time to the beat and with outfits full of sparkles. The beat quickened, the band and the trio were setting us up for ‘Stop To Love (Let’s Celebrate)’ and then Harry Cambridge came on stage to sing.
Wowzers, he had a swagger, a smile, an energy, a poise and what a voice! Absolutely stunning and smoother than the finest silk. His deep tones wrapped around you like a warm hug yet he was able to hit the high notes with precision and assurance. Harry ticked every box and a few more. He made the theatre come alive with his charisma and vitality and some of the audience were up and dancing by the end of the very first track!
It really was a big performance live show with a full band, lights, smoke, singers and it all came together for a big party night at the theatre. The band were excellent at creating a full sound and didn’t hit a note wrong.
The Trio – the three incredible singers were amazing and consisted of Gemma Samuels, Ryan Ormsby and Holly Reynolds. I don’t want to call them backing singers as they were all fabulous in their own right. They supported Harry with the backing vocals by creating perfect harmonies or just using their voices to enhance and add levels to all the songs. They also added style, grace and fun as they joined in the party atmosphere and wore fabulous outfits. They each sung a duet with Harry to showcase their individual vocal talent.
All the songs that you wanted to hear were in the set list and included:
The Power of Love (Love Power)
The Best Things In Life Are Free
Never Too Much
Love The One You are With
So Amazing
Dance with my Father
A House is Not A Home
I Really Didn’t Mean It
Any Love
Give Me The Reason
There were more packed into the two hour show and the balance between the dance tracks and the ballads were well chosen in order for the audience to sit and rest before we were up and dancing again.
It was a brilliant night with fantastic energy and is a highly recommended show.
