Moments

Moments is the new production from Theatre Re. This is a show about making a show – taking the audience through the process of creating the magic of a theatre production.

However, not a big glossy high production show but a gentle, yet emotionally powerful performance piece.

Whereas us mortals (uncreative) have a basic logical idea of the what elements might be needed for a show, to be able to witness how these elements become moments through a creative collaborative process is both humbling and wonderous.

The theme is about becoming parents, exploring time, fatherhood and then looking after your own parents until there is the inevitable grief.

We have Guillaume Pigé, the performance artist and mime, who takes a chair, a watch and talks us through his developmental thoughts.

We have the composer, Alex Judd who is interpreting Guillaume’s physicality and putting music to it. Then Katherine Graham on the lights creates further moments as she believes the lighting is almost another character on the stage, and lastly Benjamin Adams on sound and audio, who’s voice we only hear, but his impact is all around.

We get to see a small movement piece and the guys talk about it, talk through their thoughts. They show different lighting, different compositions and sounds and each layer changes the element ever so slightly as they discuss what they feel works and doesn’t work, until it becomes a magical moment as their thoughts and ideas meld together.

There are several sections of the piece which we get to see them explore, and then we have the final finished piece where every moment comes together to create a enchanted emotive, impactful piece of performance theatre.

It was incredibly interesting to watch and understand the creative dynamics and how subtle differences can change the whole moment of a scene. By coming together and sharing ideas they create a wonderful moment which we felt honoured to experience.

Theatre Re are one of the UK’s leading visual theatre companies. Their work combines original live music with striking visual theatre to create world class, deeply moving non-verbal productions about universal human challenges and the fragility of life.
