Bucket hats at the ready! An evening of 90s Manchester indie-rock with two tribute bands covering a huge plethora of hits from this era.
First up was Oaysis with their wanging guitars and kicking off the night with ‘Morning Glory’. The singer gets 10 out of 10 for effort in emulating Liam Gallagher with the dress, attitude and singing posture – all accumulating into an almost believable Oasis concert.
We had all hits from ‘Definitely Maybe’ and ‘(What’s the Story) Morning Glory?’ from 1994 and 1995 and unquestionably their biggest selling albums. The hits included ‘Some Might Say’, ‘She’s Electric’, ‘Don’t Look Back in Anger’, ‘Supersonic’, ‘Roll With It’ and ‘Champagne Supernova’ being sung by the lead guitarist – as a nod to Noel.
It was hit after hit and not too much chat, which meant they could squeeze in many songs in their time slot. When the singer did talk, it was in the Manc accent and occasionally offensive, but with a cheeky smile. He was a great Oasis front man encouraging everyone to sing along and sing loud. And we all did!
The audience were nicely warmed up the next act on was The Total Stone Roses. Again, some absolutely cracking belter hits being played mainly from their album ‘The Stone Roses’ and a couple from ‘Second Coming’. Perennial tracks such as ‘I Wanna Be Adored’, ‘I Am The Resurrection’ and ‘Waterfall’ were interspersed with ‘This Is The One’ and ‘She Bangs the Drums’ giving the crowd exactly what they came for. In true tribute format, the lead singer took on the persona of Ian Brown and all that comes with it – but the crowd appreciated the banter and it certainly didn’t stop them from enjoying themselves.
‘Fool’s Gold’ was epic and showcased the musicians on stage, who were all completely spot on. The drummer was brilliant.
It was a fantastic evening filled with superb musicianship and for a couple of hours we got to drown in nostalgia and music that built a generation.
